Friends of the Fort Riley Museums

The Friends of the Fort Riley Museums is a dedicated organization committed to

preserving and promoting the rich military history of Fort Riley. Established in 1852 to

protect westward-bound travelers along the Oregon and Santa Fe trails, Fort Riley has

played a pivotal role in American military history—from supporting Civil War efforts to

training troops during every major 20th-century conflict. It remains home to the

legendary 1st Infantry Division, the "BIG Red One". To honor and share this legacy, two

on-post museums showcase the histories of the U.S. Cavalry and the 1st Infantry

Division. Housed in historic limestone buildings from the 19th and early 20thcenturies,

these museums feature world-class collections of uniforms, weaponry, artwork, and

tactical vehicles. Currently undergoing major renovations, these facilities rely on the

support of The Friends of the Fort Riley Museums to fund programs and enhancements

not covered by the Army. In addition to their preservation efforts, the Friends have

generously donated a scholarship this year, further demonstrating their commitment to

supporting Fort Riley’s military families and community.
